The garden was designed in response to the duality of the personalities of the owners: one who finds peace in order and classical design, the other who longs for whimsy and romanticism. The garden is inspired by the gardens Sissinghurst Castle in the UK, which mediated in its design a similar difference in sensibility between husband and wife, and as it’s structure balanced the rational with the whimsical.

At its very heart, the garden is a working urban landscape - such that the formal area of the landscape will contain berry fruit, vegetable and herb gardens with a grape arbour, mowed lawn areas, espaliers and a rose garden. Beyond the ‘Classical’ garden, there is the undulating topography of the orchard of over 30 fruit species with meadows, perennial flowers, meandering paths, large swaths of lavender and a pond with bridge. The garden has been designed to create an experience, both visually looking from the house and physically as you move through it, creating spaces of whimsy and elegance, discovery and peace.
